Arsenal Celebrates Road to Historic Champions League Final

Arsenal secured their place in the UEFA Champions League final for the first time in two decades on Tuesday night, 5 May, defeating Atletico Madrid 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

A clinical rebound strike from Bukayo Saka in the 44th minute settled the tie, granting the Gunners a 2-1 aggregate victory at home in London, England.

The post-match jubilation, complete with fireworks and on-pitch celebrations by coach Mikel Arteta, drew sharp criticism from Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney.

“They deserve to be in this position but they haven’t won it yet,” the 40-year-old former forward said during a panel discussion. “I think the celebrations are a little bit too much. Celebrate when you win!”

Not long after, former Gunners icon Ian Wright took to Twitter/X to dismiss the “celebration police” and urged fans to cherish the milestone.

Ex-manager Arsene Wenger offered a more measured warning: “The celebration is deserved, happiness is absolutely normal, but now the next step is to go to the final and win it.”

Arsenal now face either Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich on 30 May. With a narrow lead in the English Premier League race as well, Arteta’s men are just four games away from a historic continental and domestic double.
